Abstract

Archaeology in the lower Magdalena has been important to reconstruct processes such as the origin of ceramics, sedentism, domestication of plants and social complexity. This paper presents some of the results obtained from the archaeological explorations carried out along the expansion of a road in the historic center of Barranquilla, in which the chronology of site occupation is specified. These results put into discussion several aspects about the archaeology of pre-Hispanic societies who lived in the lower Magdalena during the Late Formative period.
