Notes on the Marble Parietal Coverings from Villa dei Quintili, Rome, Italy Daniel Becerra Fernández
Abstract
This paper reports on the “marmora” used in the parietal wall coverings found at the Villa dei Quintili in Rome, Italy.
Special attention is paid to the preparation of the walls and to the macroscopic identification of the “marmora”, noting a great variety of parietal marble coverings and lapidary types, as well as the reuse of ornamental rocks in the preparation of the walls.
Greyish white marbles (“greco scritto” and “bardiglio”) are in the majority, and the use of two varieties of Hispanic decorative rocks was verified.
